L. Bernette Ho
As chair of the firm's regulatory practice group, Bernie has represented electricity and oil and gas clients on a broad range of issues before the Energy Resources and Conservation Board and the Alberta Utilities Commission, formerly the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board, in relation to rate proceedings, electrical deregulation, facility applications and Board-initiated inquiries. She has also assisted clients with pipeline applications before the National Energy Board, and has appeared before several review panels conducting environmental assessments of proposed pipeline projects, as well as other facilities.
Bernie also maintains a commercial litigation and dispute resolution practice, dealing with a wide variety of corporate, energy, employment and insurance issues. Bernie has experience with mass tort and class action litigation, including assisting with the successful defence of a motion for class certification pursuant to Alberta's Class Proceedings Act. She has appeared before the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Alberta Court of Queen's Bench and the Alberta Court of Appeal, and has been involved in several arbitration proceedings conducted in accordance with the International Chamber of Commerce and UNCITRAL Rules.
Bernie has acted as a volunteer instructor or evaluator for the Legal Education Society of Alberta since 2001. The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory identifies Bernie as a leading practitioner in the area of Energy.
