Richard is a corporate/M&A lawyer based in Melbourne, Australia. He advises clients in relation to acquisitions and disposals, large infrastructure and procurement projects and competition matters, across a range of industries, including energy, telecommunications, technology, food and beverage and defence.
In the M&A area, Richard has acted in relation to numerous share and asset sales in the energy industry, for clients including Hydro Tasmania, Alliant Energy, AES and Infratil Australia. He has also acted in numerous sales in the food and beverage industry, for clients including National Foods and Bonlac, and in the telecommunications and technology industries, for clients including Nextgen Networks, Bentley Systems and EnerNOC Inc.
In the major projects and procurement space, Richard has acted for Nextgen Networks (and its related companies, Metronode, Visionstream and LSE Technology) for a number of years, including in relation to the Victorian Government PPP relating to the Emergency Alerting System, contracts in relation to the construction of data centres and provision of data centre services, the Australia-Singapore Submarine Cable project and several projects relating to the rollout of telecommunications infrastructure. Richard has also acted for the Commonwealth Defence Materiel Organisation in procurement matters.
In the competition space, Richard advises clients on all aspects of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth), including merger clearance issues and in relation to the cartel, exclusive dealing, misuse of market power and consumer protection provisions. Richard also regularly provides trade practices compliance training to clients, including Nextgen Networks, Aurecon and Hydro Tasmania.
Richard was recognised by his peers as a leading lawyer in the three separate areas of Mergers & Acquisitions, Regulatory and Energy, by his inclusion in each of those categories in the Best Lawyers® Australia publication for 2010 and 2011.
